In the tabletop role-playing game Wolfspell, players embody humans that have been transformed into wolves. During the campaign, they will balance their wolve and human personalities, embedded in two dices that are used during the game: the blood die, representing the human thought (which includes the will to take risks) and the wolf die, representing the wolf instinct and capabilities (tending to be more warry of taking risks). During the campaign, players may seek to break the spell that transmogrified them or maintain their lives as wolves.
Wolfspell invites players to consider symbiotic relations between the two species they represent, and maybe balance its elements to answer to a variety of threats. At the same time, the dynamic of rolling the two dices seem to subtract some agency from the players, trapped in between the two personalities. Depending on which die is the higher, the performance, reaction and consequences of the players actions will vary, as they’ll act more as a human or as a wolf. Unsure of who we are, randomness drives our lives.
