This documentary series is made by The Earthshot Prize in collaboration with the BBC, and looks into solutions that promise to deliver a sustainable world in which both nature and humanity can thrive. The BBC promotes their series as an urgent call to action to the world, and aims to turn the current pessimism surrounding environmental issues into optimism by championing leadership and helping to scale cutting-edge solutions.
The Earthshot prize is an organisation founded by the British Prince William and The Royal foundation in October 2020, and has five missions (protect and restore nature, clean our air, revive our oceans, build a waste-free world, fix our climate). In their documentary Repairing the Planet, they dedicate an episode to each of their five goals. The episodes showcase the challenges we face, and profile the people around the world who are already finding solutions. The project aims to generate new ways of thinking, as well as new technologies, systems, policies, and solutions. Furthermore, by bringing these five missions together they recognise the interconnectivity between environmental challenges. The related award can be granted to individuals, scientists, activists, businesses, and countries. Prizes such as these can influence people to take action by rewarding them with public recognition and admiration (Huckelba&Van Lange, 2020).
