April 26, 1986, the day that one of the nuclear power stations of Chernobyl reactors in Ukraine exploded. It was the biggest nuclear accident in history. In 2019 miniseries Chernobyl was the subject of a five-part miniseries from HBO (Home Box Office, 2019). Chernobyl narrates the history of the 1986 nuclear tragedy in Chernobyl, one of the world’s greatest man-made disasters, and the sacrifices made to preserve Europe from unthinkable tragedies.
This series could be relevant from an environmental perspective. How could the miniseries contribute to the green media, green energy discussion, to use no nuclear energy? Green energy is not yet predictable and irregular, therefore specially designed nuclear power plants acting as energy buffers can help solve this problem (Petrescu, et al., (2016). The Chernobyl disaster is narrated in this miniseries. It demonstrates to the rest of the world how poor design, as well as the deliberate use of lower-cost and lower-quality materials to save money, endangers humanity and the environment. Therefore, with better design choices nuclear energy plants can still be used.
